How to Care for Color-Treated Hair

September 29, 2022

Dying your hair can be a fabulous experience until it comes to taking care of it. Color-treated hair requires special care in order to maintain its color and vibrancy. Here are some tips on how to look after your color-treated hair:

1. Use a Color-Safe Shampoo and Conditioner.

Look for products that are specifically designed for color-treated hair. These products will help to protect your hair’s color and prevent fading.

For example, our London collection at The Runway Looks is designed specifically for color-treated hair!

2. Use a Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Alongside a shampoo that is color-safe, make sure to get your hands on one that is sulfate-free too. Sulfates are harsh detergents that can strip away your hair’s natural oils, making it dry and brittle. Our London Collection hydrating and color sustain shampoo is a great sulfate-free choice.

3. Don’t Shower in Scorching Hot Water.

Hot water might feel great but it can strip away your hair’s natural oils, as well as the color. Try to shower in lukewarm or even cold water instead in order to keep your hair happy and healthy.

4. Don’t Use Hot Tools on Your Hair Every Day.

Heat can damage your hair and cause your color to fade. We recommend limiting your use of heat to barely and if possible, none. If you must use heat, be sure to use a heat protectant spray beforehand in order to protect your hair.

5. Avoid Chlorinated Water.

Chlorine can cause your hair color to fade. If you’re going to be swimming in chlorinated water, wear a swimming cap. Your hair will thank you.

6. When You Have Fun in the Sun, Make Sure to Protect Your Hair.

UV rays can cause your hair color to fade. If you’ll be spending time outdoors, wear a hat or use a leave-in conditioner with SPF. Hairstyle tip: leave-in conditioner makes for amazing sleek buns!

7. Be Kind to Your Hair.

Avoid using harsh chemicals or over-washing your hair. Too much washing can strip away the natural oils that help to protect your hair. Also, be sure to be gentle when brushing your hair as you can rip and damage it if you’re too rough.

8. Get Regular Trims.

Getting your hair trimmed regularly will help to prevent split ends and keep your hair looking healthy. We recommend getting a trim every 6 to 8 weeks.

By following these tips, you can help keep your color-treated hair looking its best.
